Ledger Hardware Wallet

Why Choose a Hardware Wallet?

In the world of cryptocurrency, security is paramount. Unlike software wallets (hot wallets) that are constantly connected to the internet and vulnerable to hacks, Ledger hardware wallets (cold storage) keep your private keys offline. This means your assets remain safe even if your computer is compromised.

Ledger devices act as a physical barrier between your digital assets and the online world. Whether you are holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, or thousands of other supported tokens, a Ledger device ensures that you—and only you—have access to your funds.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Follow these precise steps to initialize your device securely. Do not skip any safety checks.

01

Unbox and Verify Integrity

Before connecting your device, inspect the packaging. Ensure the box was sealed and contains the device, a USB cable, and blank recovery sheets. Important: The recovery sheets must be blank. If there are words already written on them, do not use the device and contact Ledger support immediately.

02

Download Ledger Live

Navigate to the official website to download the Ledger Live application for your desktop or mobile device. This software is the interface you will use to manage your accounts and update your device firmware.

03

Initialize Device & Set PIN

Connect your Ledger to your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to "Set up as new device". You will be asked to choose a PIN code (4 to 8 digits). This PIN is the first line of defense against unauthorized physical access to your device.

04

Record Your Recovery Phrase

This is the most critical step. Your device will display a series of 24 words. Write them down exactly as shown on the provided recovery sheet. Verify each word carefully. This 24-word phrase is the only way to restore your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or broken. Never share it with anyone or type it into a computer.

05

Install Apps & Add Accounts

Once initialized, use the "Manager" tab in Ledger Live to install apps for the cryptocurrencies you wish to hold (e.g., Bitcoin App, Ethereum App). After installing an app, you can add an account to your portfolio and start receiving funds securely.

Advanced Security Features

Secure Element Chip

Ledger devices use a certified Secure Element (SE) chip, the same technology used in passports and credit cards, to withstand sophisticated attacks.

Bluetooth Connectivity

The Ledger Nano X features Bluetooth capability, allowing you to manage your crypto on-the-go securely with the Ledger Live mobile app.

BOLOS Operating System

Ledger's custom OS isolates applications from each other. Even if one app is compromised, the integrity of the device and other apps remains intact.
